Hi,
I've uploaded a short silent newsreel clip of Jimmie Guthrie riding in
the 1934 IOM Senior. Enjoy!

Crikey, makes you think doesn't it - 78mph average over 265 miles
without a stop.

Respect.

Many thanks for that. That was back when Ballig Bridge had a proper
hump in it (a bit like Ballaugh), which you can see them jumping in
that clip. I knew there used to be a jump there, but didn't realise
it was removed so long ago (1935, according to Wikipedia).

One of the things I love about the TT is the history of it all.

And 78mph average in the soaking wet, in 1934. With 1934 power and
brakes. And tyres!

I've said it many times before, but the single statistic that amazes
me most from the TT is the year that the first 90mph average was done
- 1937. Which, for me, simply defies belief.

Given that the course involves all types of conditions, including slow
hairpin bends, makes it indeed impressive.

Fewer telephone poles then, as well.
