Check the local laws.

Things like what sort of registration, what equipment it needs if it
has to be registered.

Not to mention registration costs.... In most places a 360 costs a
heap more than a 250 does.

If you haven't ridden for ages, you might want a smaller bike.
Something you feel well in control of.

Umm... on your own property no problem, on the property of a
consenting landowner no problem.

In state forest, problem, ditto any transport section.

You never know when there will be a blitz, and a conviction for riding
unregistered and uninsured looks very nasty come car insurance renewal
time.

People who ride unregistered on public land are basically betting they
won't be caught. Up to you to decide if it's a good bet or not.

..

The KTM 360 as already mentioned is a race/enduro bike, they are getting
very old now, parts are expensive, maintanance is very high and they had
very fragile bottom ends and gearbox problems even when new, I reckon these
days they are strictly for the Vintage MX/Enduro or enthusiast brigade only.

If you dont want to spend much, I would recommend a Suzuki DRZ250, Yamaha
TTR-250 etc...or for a real cheapy something like an old KDX200 or DT175,
DT200 or an old XR

Bikes I would stay away from (that appear around the traps cheaply) would be
a Suzuki RMX250 (carb and powervalve problems) and the TS-TS-X series which
also have powervalve problems and any old 2 stroke MX bike.

Keep in mind by not registering your bike that you will not be covered by
any type of insurance, if you hit a bushwalker or horserider etc you will be
paying out for the rest of your life,....Im sure Tassie has a recreational
registration scheme, this gives you very cheap rego and allow legal riding
on a limited amount of roads and gives the rider insurance, in Vic all you
need is a bike with lights, working silencer and a bike liscence..its so
easy and cheap you would be mad not to have it.
