From: fakedutch on 30 Sep 2007 17:24 when i changed the oil on my bike about a month ago i was in a rush and didn't think to level my bike before checking final oil level....and to my surprise i was way under so i finished all 3 qt.'s of oil instead of the recomended 2.8 i rode it for a day or two, just cruising speeds i wasn't pushing it. i then took it home and checked the oil again once the bike was level.....i was way over. i took oil out. it started to make a clacking noise, it progressively got worse over the week. so i stored it for a couple days giving it a rest, then decided i wanted to go for a little joy ride, it started like it always did i let her run for a bit to warm it up. i proceed down my street, i missed going fast so i gave the throttle a little jerk, it bogged down more and more until it finally died about 100ft from my house. i started it again, it turned over but i wasn't able to put it gear because it would die, so i eased on the clutch giving it no gas what so ever, i moved a little bit then it died again. ( side note: the only time i was really able to hear the clacking clattering noise was when the bike was warmed up????) angry and confused i walked it back to my house, i tried to start it again, i could here it crank and i could feel the pressure coming out of my pipe but it wouldn't actually start??? What could it be? I'm thinking i need to get my valves adjusted, and clean the carb and go from there? Any suggestions?

Did moving the choke lever do anything while it was running? It sounds like the enriching circuit (aka choke CV style) is engaged but does it disengage? Sometimes the little soft plastic that holds the cables to the carbs can come off. Not being psychic I can't say for sure, obviously, but check it out and let us know.

Yes, you can jump a motorcycle from a car battery, but only crank the starter for five seconds at a time, and then let the starter cool and crank for another five seconds. Don't turn the throttle handle at all unless it sounds like it's going to start. Try to start the engine four or five times and then let the starter cool off, don't crank and crank and crank and crank, it's just a little starter, but it's very expen$ive and it can't get rid of the heat. When the engine fires up, disconnect the jumper cables immediately.
