Oil is just oil, but additives are different, using different means to
obtain the same desired results. Sometimes they conflict, and cause
problems. Engine mfrs know this, and recommend that you use only one oil -
theirs, naturally. Such is not wrong, just not the whole story.

Fred has it 100% right, use the recommended viscosity and spec and
that's the whole story. Conflicting additives? About the only
case of a 'bad' additive I can think of was the ill-fated Arco
Graphite oil of the 70s.
