Sounds like fun. If I were ever going to get back onto two wheels, it'd probably be on such a bike, for such an event. Although my heart says I really want another XT500, my back says it wouldn't be able to cope with it.

A 400 Four, and even worse, an XT500 would be hopelessly slow and boring around Cadwell. -- d.

Well yeah. And safe. As it happens I did ride an XT500 0round there, back in about 1978 when I was marshalling for a Derby Phoenix club meeting. Great fun, and at the time it didn't seem slow at all.

And safe. well, sort of - I've done Cadwell twice (once on a CBR929 and once on a ZX-7R) and several of the accidents I saw were caused by slow(er) bikes being rammed by faster idiots on corners. "Safe" is relative". The time I did it on my 'blade, there was a bloke on a 600cc supermoto - people were pissing all around him on the main straight and also getting in his way on the tighter corners - it didn't look like much fun for him. > As it happens I did ride an XT500 0round there, back in about 1978 > when I was marshalling for a Derby Phoenix club meeting. If I had to pick a track for singles, it'd have to be Lyddon Hill. -- d. |
