From: Champ on 28 Jul 2010 05:17 Let me tell you a story... In the distant past of the internet, there were two groups of online bikers. One group were nice chaps, mostly worked in IT and (lets be kind here) perhaps a bit geeky. The other group swore a lot (being especially fond of the C word) and while they pretended to bite the heads of chickens, also mostly worked in IT and could be equally geeky on occasion. The first group had an email list called Ixion, and the second group was on usenet at uk.rec.motorcycles, where you're reading this now. Anyway, for the last 14 years the Ixies have had a two day track day event at Cadwell, organised by the inestimable Russell Brown. When this started, track days were something new, and the event was always oversubscribed. Now, however, the Ixies have mostly grown up, there's dozens of trackdays out there, and numbers have fallen. Such that Russell is a bit short of people... Anyway - it's a two day event, on Thurs 23rd and Fri 24th Sep, and costs 170 quid in total, which is a bargain. Cadwell is one of the best and certainly the most interesting track in the country, let down only by being in Lincolnshire. I did this event about 6~7 years ago, along with Andy Bonwick, Simon Batey and a few others from here, and it really is lots of fun. It's much friendlier than a regular track day, because an awful lot of people know each other, and there's generally a lot less ego sloshing about the place. At this stage, Russell has a fair bit of space in the novice / slow group. They use a funny name for the group (Eeyores) but you'll have to forgive that. As he said to me - "If you emphasise the 'friendly, relaxed, ideal for Novice, don't bother if you're on an ego trip' type thang, then that would be good.". So, there it is emphasised. If you're a track day virgin, or have only done a couple, then this event will be absolutely ideal for you, as it simply has to be the friendliest event out there. I'll be there, and maybe the Bonwicks too, and the Ixies are very friendly chaps, so you'll get to know people very quickly. But, the word "less" here is a comparitive term, contrasting the Ixie track day, with me at it, with a regular track day, with me at it.
