From: danl on 15 Apr 2010 16:10 It's been 73 days since the thumb reconstruction surgery. Shirley, a round for the patrons. To recap, the joint pain was basically gone the day after the surgery. The surgery pain was, for me intense. Lots of codeine made it semi bearable. After 30 days the pin came out and the pain went way down as I must have bent the pin during my sleep and it was pressing on a nerve. Yer not supposed to feel pain when the pin is pulled...Ya right! The day after the pin was pulled I started therapy. Heat, stretching and squeezing gently. Tested out at about 30% strength when compared to the other hand. After the initial week I started to really push the homework. After three weeks was at 50%+ strength so therapy released me. Since then I have been constantly squeezing a resistance device, stretching the hand and bending the thumb. When I started I could only get the tip of the thumb no closer then an 1 1/4" from the tip of my little finger. Now I can, at the end of the day touch the two together. Still working on that. Figure I am up to about 65% strength now. Riding in traffic is pretty tiring, but getting better. Highway is pretty good. All in all I would do it again just to get rid of the joint pain, even if I didn't ride. Doc said the repair should last out my lifetime without a problem. Shirley! A round off the top shelf for those that wants one. danl now if I could just get rid of this summer cold Slug #280

Was kinda weird to look at, but when the doc pulled the pins I just felt a little pressure and very mild discomfort. No real pain, and I was off all my pain meds by that time.
