Don't use steel wool. Or SOS. You want a soft cloth and a cut/polish compound not a coarse mechanical abrasive such as steel wool. I find a product called "AutoSol" to be the best. Comes in a tube like toothpaste, a little goes a long ways. It polishes, it does not scratch, and it removes surface rust like nothing you've ever seen. Dave S.

Have you tried Fowler's Black Treacle? http://groups.google.com/group/rec.motorcycles/browse_thread/thread/fcee24581be4fb8f/058887a082c91a1d?lnk=st&q=%22spagthorpe%22&rnum=10#058887a082c91a1d -- Message posted via MotorcycleKB.com http://www.motorcyclekb.com/Uwe/Forums.aspx/tech/200709/1

Thanks a lot for the ideas, folks. Wifey-poo took her Bike mainly across Canada for the most part, but had to fly back, and left the bike to be trailered for a week, and then it sat for 2 weeks on the trailer until she got it back, so I guess it was damp, as well as very dirty for a coupla weeks, hence the rust. They ran into a fair bit of bad weather in the Rockies, even a hailstorm! Tnanks for the help, and I'll get started on it. Bg |
