Is it likely to be very expensive for someone to insure a large bike
before doing the direct access training, i.e. to use for the training,
compared to waiting until passing the test before insuring it?

I highly doubt they will give a discount for using your own bike - and
how would you get it there and back legally?

And the bikes they provide tend to be things like CBF500s which are easy
to manouevre and you don't have the possibility of dropping your nice
shiny bike.

It is possible to get the insurance, just that you can't legally use it
on the road without an instructor present. It's only the same as being
insured whilst a learner in a car.

Same price as insuring it when you pass in L's case. That was with
Auntie.
