It's Tuesday so this must be Brador night. Bottles on the bar, icy cold.

Is there any functional, plug/wire/connection type or other difference
between the H-D heated liner (I believe made by Gerbing) and the Gerbing
sold direct? I'm asking because if you use the Chicago H-D discount, buying
the H-D branded is actually cheaper (what? something cheaper at H-D???).

Thoughts?

The HD gloves my wife got me last year for Christmas have a coaxial plug ,
rather than the staggered pins of some others I've seen (like a battery
tender plug) . Look on eBay , some vendors have pretty good pictures of that
stuff .

Not really (see below).

Gerbing has a system that is probably the same as HD but I can't be sure.
While you might save with the Chi-town discount you'll be shutting yourself
out to other outlets (used or new). Gerbing parts (gloves, vests, liners,
pants) interconnect and I assume HD does but you'll have a wider choice by
going with Gerbing.

Powerlet system provides for just about everything and the Gerbing clothing
can plug using this:

or just run a straight female off the battery (what I have on the HD).

I don't know about the HD warranty on the HD heated stuff but I do
know that
Gerbing has a lifetime warranty on the electrical portions of their
clothing.
I had a 15+ year old jacket liner that had stopped heating on the
right sleeve.
I returned it to them, they repaired it and replaced the old "romex"
power
cable with the new coaxial style at no cost to me other than shipping.
They
even paid the return shipping, hard to find customer service like that
now.

I do recommend purchasing the power controller as just wiring straight
to
the battery will make you toast in about 10 minutes. I use the same
controller
for both the gloves and jacket liner and I never leave home without it
in the
saddlebags in the cooler months. At almost 70 years old I find that I
can
use it on a low setting when it's down in the 50's to keep me
comfortable
and I've used it down to the mid 20's in AZ one trip and was perfectly
comfortable.
YMMV

Should both be coax.

Yeah, call their customer service number and ask for Tina... tell her
Snarl sent ya. She's a good friend and I even married her to my
Brother, Browneye. Plus they live a mile away.

That's where I base *my* Gerbing knowledge from. Tina turned me on to
a vest that was a factory 2nd or had some little flaw that didn't
effect anything far as I can tell. After that I was hooked! Next was
a coat, gloves, socks, hell, Jeanne has a coat and controller for her
morning winter commute to work in th' cage.

I've never needed any repair work, Jeanne's gone through a few
batteries... th' coat allows a battery pack as well as being plugged
in. I have helped a few ridin' buds that did need some work done and
Tina usually makes sure it's done right and in a timely manner. She
really is an excellent customer service rep.

Gerbing moved th' manufacturing to China and their office from Union,
WA to Olympia, WA not too long ago. Things were a bit bumpy while th'
boxes were being unpacked, but that's long since been a non-issue. A
few folks had less than 5 star service during th' move... that's why.

As far as th' politics of why they went to China goes, I dunno, don't
really care. It's not a hill I'm gonna die on anyway. All I know is
our Gerbing stuff is excellent and we love Tina. I'd say it'd be
cheaper in th' long run to deal direct with Gerbing than take a little
discount on th' front end. 'Sides ya might even get th' Snarl
discount.
