Unless you were buying a machine like a U-Matic. Can't be arsed googling it, but closer to 76-77 I think. I started working at a TV station in 1979 and VHS or Betamaxes were still quite rare then. I started working at a TV station in 1979 and VHS or > Betamaxes were still quite rare then. > > Kev I had a TV station recording tape cassette machine in one of the sheds and I ended up giving it away because of its size, think the bloke got about $150 as scrap The tapes were in a container about a 12" long, about 9" wide, 2" deep, but that was in the early 70's, I think they were made in the 1960's then I got a Philips tape recorder, the tapes were little square cassetes,which I consider to have been the best, but as there was a war on between Philips, Sony and National about which format to bring out, Philips brought out their version, which in my opinion was the better one, but the others, ganged up on Philips and flooded the market with Beta, then VHS, with VHS ultimately winning, even though Beta are a better quality tape than VHS, with Philips even better. So, Philips were appointed to the back shelf But, that is only my opinion

I am a bit hazy about the date (it was the seventies, I wore flairs and platform shoes), but I do remember the pain of the price. Theo |
