From: rnr on 8 Mar 2010 08:58 Cards on the table. Drink up, I need some advice. I have a '98 Heritage (85,000 mi) that incurred some significant hail damage in Sturgis. Of course, the insurance situation left me a bit lacking as far as being able to resore he original color. I decided to make it all black, as a bike should be. I figured this would be a good time to put larger tanks on, as the stock Heritage tanks are just too damn small. I bought a set of HD factory fatbob 5 gal tanks on Ebay, purportedly from a softail. They don't look as good inside as mine, but that's another story. I've been wrenching my bike since new but I don't know a thing about changing tanks. The large tank (right side) has a curved nipple on the bottom front, which matches my old one. It also has another straight nipple right next to it, that I believe is simply a different location for the vent tube. I'm not concerned about that. On the left tank, however, the outlet for the fuel valve is about 6" further forward than the one on my original tank. Should I be concerned about this? I don't want to wind up with a bunch of un-usable gas or a reserve funtion that is useless. Anyone run into this before? Thanks for any advice. rnr

If it's not , a good welder can fix that for ya - for a fee , of course . Thanks fer the Dickel . -- Snag A bad welder can blow up your tank and kill himself ...

I guess I should remove the existing tank and temporalily install the large on to get a good look. Better to figure it now than after all of the paint and body work is done. Thanks and have another Dickel.

Thanks and have another Dickel. Thanks , and don't forget to drain the tanks before you remove the crossover tube . -- Snag "90 FLHTCU "Strider" '39 WLDD "PopCycle" BS 132/SENS/DOF
