From: I am Tosk on 19 Jul 2010 13:03 Question... As you came up through the ranks did you find that some folks (who used to beat you and don't anymore) got to appreciate you less and less as it were. Seems in MX some folks are only your friend if they are still faster than you... Serious question, cause if not, it's just me and I gotta' do something about it soon for my kids benefit. -- Rowdy Mouse Racing - Trying to look at the big picture!

Gets serious in some places/situations. Not so much fun then. The serious guys can see a fast up and comer as a threat to their progress/sponsorship/results/career. Nothing wrong or abnormal about that but if you're goals are different than being top dog (mouse), you might get eaten. And if your goal *is* to be top dog (mouse), the fun goes away. It's really hard to do well, have fun, and keep an even keel about all the externalities of other people's reactions to that. Scott H seems (by his dad's reporting) to be doing better than most but the level of money in his chosen discipline is nowhere near what it is in MX. And that is the root of all mouse traps. Go fast. Take chances. Mike S.

Once you threat others, you are no longer their friends! Either you grow a thick crust or you conform and be "average". sorry for the rant, but I'm pretty pissed myself over exactly this subject and I ain't talking mx! have fun... -- T

That's a big part of why I (we) prefer off road racing. There's MUCH less drama than in MX. I see more genuine happiness for riders progressing up through the ranks, and most people that find themselves getting beat seem to take that as a sign to pick up their own game. Scott's best racing buddy was supposed to win the championshp that Scott took in his first year racing, and Scott has beat him out twice more then in the Enduro series. They kid about it. Tim H
