The White Lion[1], a quiet village pub with a very good restaurant in the old gaol. Every now and then the place would descend into depraivity as it became a regular drinking place for Oliver Reed in the mid 80s. He liked to use a posh hotel on the A40 between Ross & Gloucester when he was filming in the area. Reed & the landlord, Rob, became good mates. They were very competitive with everything they did whether it was golf in the daytime, gambling or drinking games. The funniest event was when they stripped off and wrestled on the lawn, only finishing when they went off the edge and down the bank of the River Wye. The swivelling Captain's Chair, there were 2 at the short end of the bar, allowed one to easily keep tabs on the entertainment. Sadly, I missed all bar 2 of his visits.
