From: Yeebok on 13 Aug 2007 03:08 Sorry BT, but .. specifying just "14 points" is like saying "14 cubits" - it's entirely relative. All fonts are different and physical height between two "14 point fonts" differs for any of baseline (bottom of a), height (top of 'a'), descending (bottom of 'g') and ascending characters (top of 'f') and capitals (eg 'A') positions within the vertical part of each line of text. As a result any change of font affects the ratio between all of these which also affects readability just as much as physical size of individual letters does. Some can read serif easier than sans, some people need more or less whitespace than others. Some may find "large print letters" subtly offensive too ;) Get a line of text formatted in "Arial" Copy it paste it, change its font to "Binner Gothic" Copy it paste it, change its font to "Angsana New" Copy it paste it, change its font to "Verdana" Review your work Note Each line above has different heights onscreen in pixels. So 14 cubits of what font ? :) BT Humble wrote: > bikerbetty wrote: >> It's not that Bigger is Better (well, typographically speaking it IS... but >> I won't say a word beyond that!) but I'd just like to know who set the >> bloody text trends recently that made "weenily undoable" the default! Kids are so funny sometimes..... I was tempted to dock marks for wasting paper <evil grin> AND for being so bloody unsubtle... And some of the shitty fonts they used to use - eeeeek - Blackadder, for Chrissake, for an entire story!!! THAT was almost as bad as their handwriting! betty

They are easier to read. Moike |
