The bike that Blaney now owns I sourced for Ace, and it was professionally painted in black with gold decals, and yes, it looked great. Ace sold it to Ben and when I sourced a set of fully restored red bodywork, Ben had it off me and put the bike back to original, but I think Honda missed a trick by not painting it in that colour originally. -- BMW K1100LT Ducati 750SS Honda CB400F Triumph Street Triple Suzuki TS250ER GN250 Damn, back to six bikes! Too far for most people, and timed out at a silly time. Having examined the other one very closely now I've got it home, it needs: New front guard (serviceable but old), new front rim (ditto), seat re- done, engine removed and blasted, new bars, new headlight rim, some steel brake hose, paintwork re-done (wrong shade of red, some bubbling, and the decals are pissed on the tank and wrong on the panels). Plus side: very, very good engine, nice new exhaust system, lots of new chrome (just swapped over the brake pedal for my old one). So it's another breaker. I'm beginning to realise that a lot of the so- called restorations out there really aren't very good. I'm also realising that the red one stashed in the Chateau for the last decade and more is quite exceptional. Really. It's original and unrestored and so is really, really useful as a yardstick for what is and isn't correct. It's also in better condition than any other one I've yet seen, with one exception. I've shoved the spare exhaust system I had on eBay, and I'll keep the set from this latest bike. The system that is now on eBay has been up for four days, starting at 99p, and is now on £330 with 63 watchers and six days left to run. I think £500 is easily achievable: maybe £600.

Pity, it looks rather tasty. If I had the cash I would take a drive down to Cornwall to take a close look and make an offer. > Having examined the other one very closely now I've got it home, it > needs: > > New front guard (serviceable but old), new front rim (ditto), seat re- > done, engine removed and blasted, new bars, new headlight rim, some > steel brake hose, paintwork re-done (wrong shade of red, some > bubbling, and the decals are pissed on the tank and wrong on the > panels). > > Plus side: very, very good engine, nice new exhaust system, lots of > new chrome (just swapped over the brake pedal for my old one). > > So it's another breaker. Good spares are getting scarce and expensive, it might be worth just stashing the best bits away for a few years to appreciate. Sometimes you just have to admit that a bike is not good enough to throw money at, the exhaust on the blue one has a new pipe from David Silver on number 3 because it was rusty as hell. The remainder just had minor pitting which cleaned up nicely. It will never be a really good example so the target market is someone who wants a tidy-ish bike to ride rather than a collector. -- 03 GS500K2 76 Honda 400/4 project 78 Honda 400/4 in black 06 Sukida SK50QT (Slanty eyed shopping trolley)
