I am sure Pikey Joe is correct in saying that only black powder pistols can
be used now in the UK.

I am also interested in shooting pistols especially automatics and have
twice visited The Gun Shop in Vegas where I was instructed in the use of a
Glock, Beretta 92 and a Colt 1911.

I liked the Colt the best, possibly because I have big hands and the gun
felt correct. I also wear bifocals so while taking aim I either had the open
sights in focus or the target in focus - never both. The instructor told me
to try and look through the sights with both eyes open and following his
advice I shot some quite good groups and the evidence is now pinned on my
office wall.

I purchased a Beretta 92 FS CO2 pistol but found that althoug having the
same dimensions and weight of the real thing, the trigger did not lend
itself to accurate shooting. I traded the Beretta in for the new Webley
Alecto which is a multi-stroke pneumatic pistol and in a week I used up a
tin of 500 .177 Falcon Accurate pellets.

The Alecto has adjustments for grip (palm rest) length of trigger pull and
weight. The trigger can also be adjusted so it is in perfect contact with
the pad of the index finger.

I am now hitting a knock-down target 9 times out of ten at 10 yards and 25
yards but the 6 yard paper target still need a lot more practice.

Later today I may visit a local rifle club to discuss the possibility of
joining with the aim of purchasing a .17 rim fire rifle which will
complement my Air Arms 510 .22 carbine.

If you can only manage that, I suspect the trigger is the least of your
issues ;)

With more practice today I can now hitting a 2" diameter target at 30 yards

As has been said:

It's pistol using black powder with ball or for a cartridge, the pistol
has a long barrel with, in the case of the 'pistol' I use, with an
extension rod from the bottom of the hand grip which does not touch the
arm but makes the overall length of the weapon fit in the carbine/rifle
category.

And no it's not photo shopped.

In fact I'm of to do a bit of pistol and rifle shooting this evening, to
keep my eye in as it were.

Vari-focal glasses don't work on a range. Or not for me!
