We went over to Castleton today, Lesley and I + 3 dogs.

Went walking up Cavedale. Sign said sheep grazing, keep
dogs on lead. Lower reaches, no sheep, so we let the dogs
run (being spaniels they are only interested in the fauna
if it has feathers).

Got to the gate above the castle, and there were sheep, so
dogs went on the leads, and we trundled up to the tops, and
eventually headed back down.

As we came in sight of the gate, a family came through -
'casual' clothes, trainers, etc. - hubby, wifey + 2 sprogs
+ small mongrel, which promptly took off up the valley
sides chasing the sheep!

We shouted down to them, and eventually they got their dog
back under a semblance of control, but no lead. We passed
by and though the gate, looked back, and the mut was back
on the case, chasing the sheep up the hillside.

If there had been a farmer with shotgun, I would have
advised shooting the owners.
