From: Harold Gailey on 10 Mar 2010 22:54 I've had some issues with my shovel quitting like the electric just stopped. I thought it was a bad circuit breaker at the battery so I bypassed it by putting all the wires on the top post of the circuit breaker. I didn't have a lot of time to test the theory but it didn't quit for the handful of miles I was able to test it. This last Sunday I took it for a ride since it's been sitting through most all of this winter. It did fine for the first 5 miles and I got confident and took it up on the freeway. Was doing about 70 mph when it died. I got over to the right lane and turned the emergency off switch off and on but nothing happened. The I turned the key off and on and it backfired and was running fine again. The whole time it was off was probably less than 15 seconds the bike was still doing about 40 when it fired back up. Is there another circuit breaker that could cause this? Can the ignition switch itself be the culprit? Or is this an early warning that my Crane Hi4 is about to give out? The bike has about 8 years and less than 10000 miles on a major rebuild that included a new wiring harness. This bike also appears to have a non-working charging system and lives on a battery tender. I have the parts to upgrade the entire charging system to 32 amp but haven't got the room to work on it at the moment. I had a similar situation on my '69 and about went nuts trying to track it down, By a sheer fluke I found that the studs that the breaker plate mounts onto the distributor body had vibrated the threads to a point where the breaker plate would sometimes lose its ground. It was an easy fix but it took me weeks to find the problem. It'll something stupid that you wouldn't think to consider. I feel your pain.

Next time it quits, try just jiggling the switch. I had trouble with corrosion on the contacts of the switch on Lynn's Superglide. Ended up rebuilding the switch .
