Also 'gone wrong' at around that time was the Z1R, which, with its huge triangular side panels, just ruined the wonderful lines of the Z1/900/100 that preceded it. In retrospect it's not as bad as the Katanas, but at the time it was just... wrong. ><looks at .sig> > >I'm probably not helping much, am I? Any support is welcome. I thought the GS range just looked 'proper'. > >As did the Z1. The Katanas were... Not proper. You're joking. You *have* to be joking. The GS was the quintessential UJM. It was based on styling that was an amalgam of Japanese thinking at the time, across the board. LCD styling. The Katana was a quantum leap forward to a newer, brighter, cleaner style that would eventually produce the FireBlade, and subsequently the R1, which is about as pretty as big Jap bikes ever got (the early ones at least - it all went a bit pear-shaped later). One could argue the front/rear visual bias of the Katana was "wrong", but only for as long as the bike had no rider; add a person and it all balances out. It's a design classic, and will hopefully, someday, be viewed as such. I'm happy to admit bias, as it's also the bike that made me want to be a road biker. I won't bore you yet again with the story. > Quite.
