Insurance companies are like tyres... ask enough people for an opinion and you'll get the entire spectrum of possible opinions from v.good to v.bad. In my own dealings with them, they were excellent when I had an at-fault accident, and they were shitful, slow and unhelpful when I had a not-at-fault accident. Go figure. Aside from the slowness of their processing my claim, when they did send me a cheque they had withheld the basic excess. This is the wording from their PDS "You will not have to pay an excess for any claims if, in our opinion - you or any person using your motorcycle with your permission, were not to blame for the accident damage caused, and - you give us the name and address of the driver of the other vehicle and the registration number of the other vehicle." So when I rang them to ask why they had withheld my excess they told me that they would not pay it until the other driver had accepted liability for the accident (the other driver had no insurance). They told me they had been unable to contact the other driver. I had the PDS wording in my hand regarding the excess and I read it over the phone to them word for word and asked them to tell me which section of the above I had not fully complied with. Apparently, if they don't try to contact the other driver, then, in their opinion, those clauses don't apply. I know they hadn't tried, because I sent the other drive a letter demanding money for a new helmet, jacket, boots, pants, gloves etc and she contacted me quick bloody smart, in tears. Wonder how she would have reacted when she received the bill from Swann for my bike. Due to an administrative error on their part I was able to get my excess back without their knowledge/consent. I'm sure they worked it out eventually. They never contacted me over the matter and I haven't dealt with them since. Nev.. '08 DL1000K8

All quotes included max no claims, over 55 & no endorsements. Swann & IMR lineball for the DL; IMR slightly cheaper for the Trump; Swann 2/3 the price for the Pegaso. QBE want so much personal info that I'll just drop in next time I'm in Parra. NRMA was, erm... amusing? ATM, looks like which bike will almost dictate which insurer though. One claim, no *real* hassles (they played silly buggers for a week or two but took me pointing out the logic flaws in their wriggling well), several renewals - haven't used them for a while for cost reasons but I'd happily use them again JL

I have made 2 claims with them , each claim was for about $1700 , one was for when my bike got knocked over by an arsehole in a 4 wheel drive in a roadside parking bay and another when I got hit by a car and got taken away in a ambulance and had to get my bike towed to a holding yard and held for 10 days and then towed to a repair shop. Both times Swann processed the claims within days , which is good because I am in Perth and they are in Sydney. Another point is that with my accident with a car , I was house bound with a broken ankle and I did all of my claim forms by getting them to post me the forms and then I scanned them into a .jpg image and emailed them back to Swann. -- Sandgroper ---------------------------------------------- Save planet Earth ! My broker does all that for me, I don't do anything at all. |
