Yamaha XT200K timing:
Hi I picked up a 1983 Yamaha XT200 for my wife to ride. It is in fair shape with 2300 miles on it. After cleaning up the fuel system I got it to start and idle, however giving it any throttle causes it to start backfiring in the exaust. Any ideas about ignition or valve timing are appreciated. CM450 carb problems
its an 1984 honda cm450e. it has VB22 carbs (CV) I'm having hesitation/stuttering at about 1/4 to 1/2 throttle. the carbs have been professionally cleaned and synced. the slides move easily in the bore. once past this "stuttering" it runs fine. i just had the carbs apart again to doublecheck and couldn't find ... 28 Jun 2007 15:37
Yamaha XS650 twin
After a recent bout of twin-bashing on rec.motorcycles, I dragged out my old XS650 parallel twin last night and took it for a ride. The ride was good, I enjoyed the sound from those skinny chrome mufflers even if the 650 corners like a pig compared to the sportbike I usually ride. Could do without the enormou... 29 Jun 2007 13:30
Yamaha XJ 550 Maxim carburetor issue
I've been reading through the posts with the fellow having issues with his XJ 650 carbs, and it sounded terribly familiar. I've got an '81 XJ 550 Maxim with a sick carb and wouldn't mind a pointer if anyone out there can help. So far: 1. the carbs have been cleaned (as in torn down, soaked and all passages blo... 20 Jun 2007 21:17

Setting idle mixture screw on old Hondas
Hi -- I've got a 1972 cb350 (twin) with idle issues that I'm messign around with and trying to correct. In the process of this, I tightened, then slackened off the idle mixture screws on both carbs. I actually don't know where to set them. Is there a standard setting, ie. 2 full turns from lightly seated, ... 19 Jun 2007 09:42
Honda CL450 fouled plugs
I'm having a difficult time getting a friends Honda Cl450 to quit fouling plugs. I'm familiar with vintage HDs and Brit bikes but this old Honda is making me tear my hair out. I've cleaned the carbs thoroughly and rebuilt them with new jets, readjusted the valves, checked the points, compression (140 psi) but the b... 16 Jun 2007 22:16
1972 cb350 idle issues
Howdy folks Forgive the newbie, but I've got a dumb question that I can't seem to answer for myself. Here's the thing: I've got a 72 cb350 that wasn't ridden much over the last 10 years (though it was ridden a bit here and there throughout). I had a problem with stalling and the left piston not firing until t... 18 Jun 2007 15:55
Suzuki GS400E
Last week, after a 20 year hiatus, I got back on a 2 wheeler; bought a 1983 Suzuki GS400E. Two days into ownership I noticed gas pouring from one of the carburetor breathing/overflow tubes (on the right) & the bike did not want to start. When it finally did (start), foam came from the the oil dipstick hole. I shut of... 30 May 2007 17:44
