2 more weeks until we move. Interior painting is nearly done.
Kitchen cabinets should be installed over the weekend. The flooring
is being finished this weekend.

Anyone have tips for securing cabinets over a tile floor? I was
thinking of using a masonary drill thru the tile, then screwing/gluing
down 2x4 sections to secure the cabinet bases to. Plan B is to simply
use caulk to secure the base of the cabinets to the tile. Once
cabinets are secured to the wall and counters are in place, they
should be pretty sturdy. As we may someday replace the ceramic tile
with cork flooring, I plan on sawing thru the floor tile at the edge
of the toe kicks before mounting the cabinets. I would then fill the
score lines with colored caulk. This would enable me to remove
flooring up to the cabinets in the future.

OB-moto content: KLR handles *much* better with new steering head
bearings.

You don't, you just secure them to the wall, unless it is a peninsula/
island.

That'd work. I don't think I'd bother with glue, screwing your cleats
the the floor framing should be enough.

That'd work also. Some cabinets are designed to be installed to floor
cleats, others simply fasten to the wall and each other and just sit on
the floor.

Sounds good. If you wanted a little more work for yourself (!) you could
go ahead and remove the tile under the cabinets after you saw through
the toe-kick line and give yourself a nice clean area of subfloor to put
your cabinets on. It may take some extra figgerin' also to make sure
your toe-kick is the desired height.

*Excellent* news.

Jay is correct.

Provisions should be made for uneven floors; either by using shims/
adjustable feet, or by scribing and cutting the bottom. All floors are
uneven. If you are shimming/adjusting up, start at the high corner of
the room. If you are scribing (down), start at the low corner of the
room. Set the stuff plumb and level or you will struggle when it's
time to set the counter top.

Fasten through the top rail in the cabinet back. It's nice to place
nailing (screwing) blocks inside the wall at that height before
sheetrocking (NOW I tell you). Otherwise try to find a stud or two per
cabinet. Then predrill and countersink so you can secure the side rail
of the face frame to the adjacent side rail of the adjacent cabinet.
Set the counter with some semi-permanent adhesive and it becomes nice
stable unit.

Sawing the tile for the next remodel is a nice bit of forethought. I
like that.

I agree that Jay is correct on the "securing" part. Don't count on the
floor for keeping your cabinets from sliding around.

However you should caulk/seal the contact with the floor to keep mop
water from puddling under your nice wood.
