He's had this bike, a 1959 BMW R69 since 1960 so it's been in my life as
long as I can recall

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Steve Parry"

Did he restore it after 1984? Very nice condtion.
It really needs a ped slicer for authenticity.

no it's not really been restored, it's pretty much original, he's recently
had the mudguards and tank repainted as the striping had started to yellow
with age.

He has the front number plate but it used to sit under the front headlamp
not in the mudguard

Although it doesn't show in the pics the clutch lever is attached to the
throttle as my uncle only has one arm after losing his left arm in a mining
accident. It's never stopped him riding bikes though his last large bike
being a K75S. When he had the K75S the R69 got tucked away in the back of
the garage and cleaned and serviced once a year.

Wow. Optional (and desirable) big tank as well.

That looks really tidy but you need to get him a set of period tyres
so he can remind himself just how bad things were.
