The pub at Violet town has(had) a good reputation. More choices at Benalla. The Pinsent Hotel in Wangaratta is claimed to be bike-friendly. How much time do you have on Friday? See how far you can get without riding into the night. I'm leaving around 2pm, and I'm staying at Tumbarumba. It's about 5 hrs away, but makes the next day a bit more leisurely. Moike

If it is running OK on Friday, I doubt I'd get away early - I'm looking at 5:30 depart from Mulgrave, VIC and maybe 3 hours riding on the Hume... just so I can make the Saturday ride more do-able! It will be dark all the time on Friday night. I'd say it's 50/50 whether I can do it.

I did Echuca to Sydney in a day. Did the return trip (to Melbourne) in two days, stopped overnight at the caravan park in Holbrook where a motel style cabin was $80 and got a free beer and ride to/from the RSL club for food. It was a bit too much riding.

One hour or three hours at night on the Hume is all the same. If you're prepared to ride halfway to Albury on the Friday you may as well ride the whole way and get more km out of the way. You probably have the range to get to Albury on a tank from Mulgrave, there are service centres on the Hume at Seymour & Glenrowan if you need fuel. If your bike is comfortable enough to sit on for 3.5hrs there's no other reason to stop or slow down. Nev.. |
