From: Dave on 6 Sep 2007 00:42 I'm looking for a new passtime and am considering trail bike riding but don't want to just drop a load of cash getting set up only to find that I don't like it or am unable to do it. Is there anywhere in SA (I'm in Adelaide) that either does commercial trail bike tours or any clubs with "come and try" events? Thanks, Dave
From: Yeebok on 6 Sep 2007 03:18 I'm in NSW - the laws are likely different but in a worst case there'd be a rider training school that'd teach you the basics - which I guess would tell you whether you "like it" or not as in NSW it's 2 days for the "I don't have my L's" course. By the end of that, I was sure I wanted to ride. Otherwise find a mate with a traily and get them to let you have a go tho with limited experience you'll possibly find dirt tracks a tad daunting. From: Madeyes on 6 Sep 2007 04:25 Dave, We're in the same boat. Where NOT to go: anywhere oalongthe shoreline (dunes) between Adelaide and Whyalla, you will get busted. We usually go up to the river between Morgan and Waikerie but it's a long way to go for a day ride. I did a commercial bike tour in SA some time ago (OK, it was 26 September 1989). A week in Wilpena Pound. There were about 15 of us and the tour operator carried the tents, etc. We only did about 60-70 kms a day, saw some interesting stuff, and spent one day hiking. I enjoyed it immensely. They supplied bikes, but we drove to Adelaide and I brought my own. I don't remember the name of the tour operator. Why? My wife had a conference in Adelaide and it just happened to fit in nicely. I remember the date precisely because I rang my wife from a public phone box to say "Happy 25th anniversary darling". Theo |
