That's kind of what I thought too after the fact. I was really sorry
about the shocks, though, they felt way better than the Ducati shocks.
The softness of the shocks was important due to the seat construction:
Imagine a curved box with coil springs stretched across the top. Cover
the box with naugahyde. Mount it on a motorcycle where a seat would be.

HA!

Jeff Kent tried that excuse when he was with the Giants. Turns out
he'd broken his wrist while wheelie-ing a dirt bike, but didn't have
the stones to tell the truth.

Anyone who has ridden with me knows I love the front brake.
On my '81 XV920, after I replaced the stock front brake hoses, I would
often raise the rear wheel off the ground at speed (70+) with the
front brake. (Not those nose wheelies for show, but to test the limits
of my braking.)

Speaking of "learning experiences" (stupid).... At the age of 13,
when I got my first motorcycle with front brakes (second bike, a
Harley M65 Sport), one of the first things I did with it was lock up
the front brake at 45 mph, just to see what it would do.
There weren't many scratches on the bike, but I tore the knee out of
a brand new pair of jeans when I low sided on that pea gravel parking
lot.

I healed very quickly back then.

So close, in fact, that I'd have to defer that one to the "did anyone
see me" rule.
