How I wished that were true - I didn't get to ride one until I was 16
(yes officer that was clearly on a closed track honestly)

It was dirtbikes back then and any of my cousins, uncles and father's
bikes I could persuade them to let me on to - so I gave a CB750 and
CB900BolD'or (or was that an 1100 ?) a caning up and down the back
roads along with various jap and english bikes. One Uncle even turned
up on a Ural once, but he wouldn't let me ride it (probably a good
idea in retrospect the complete absence of brakes meant I'd have
busted it at 40Km hrs when it didn't stop :-)

JL
Dad kept buying these lame old Pommie bikes which everyone kept
calling classics which I figured was a code word for "slow noisy and
rattly"

Hehe only two nibbles to that blatant trolling ;-) You guys are wise
to this !

I've very nearly bought one several times - it's what I'd buy instead
of a cruiser - same general mindset (slow and stylish for posing and
cruising and pootling) but it wouldn't irritate me as much as cruisers
do nowadays with their lack of cornering ability (Guzzi Calis
excepted)

Actually thinking about it: The bikes at the top of my lusted after
list at that time were the Bimota, the Norton Rotary and the Ducati
Paso, the Jap 4s were more in the "I WILL buy one of those regardless
of who I have to kill" the Bimota and Norton were the impossible
dreams

JL
In hindsight thank christ I couldn't have bought the Norton or Ducati
they both have/had awful reliability records. The Bimota though I
still want one of - the Cagiva may be it's close cousin but I'd still
like a Tesi

Is this where I tell you I had a Bimota YB5 for a week (thanks
Gowanlochs) and was just about to buy a Paso when the 851 Tricolour
came out so bought that instead?

I'd have been jealous in 1987....

Although despite the fact I now know the 851 to be a much better bike,
the Paso was what I wanted...a 906, in blue...

JL
it's amazing the stupid things you remember...
