I had an Etrex. I gave it away on the condition that the new owner was not
allowed to give it back. It sucked that much. Reception under, around,
anywhere near, in sight of, trees was nonexistent. Screen detail was so small
that I could not read it while moving.

The Garmin 60C series have worked well for me though I'm using a Tom Tom (not
waterproof) at the moment.

I got a Garmin at a swap meet for $10. It keeps scolding me
about keeping my hands on the wheel, even when I'm not even
using it in the van. Most of the menu functions, I can't
make them work. Sometimes it does give me my GPS coordinates,
though. YMMV. If you find a model you like, please post
a review.

Go for the lifetime updates at $99 from Amazon and never worry about
updates for that gps ever. I got it for both mine and update quarterly
with no other charges. See my post about the Nuvi 500 that I got last
year. It's one of the only waterproof Nuvis available.

My 2610 has seen better days (screen cover bubbled up and came off) but as
far as functionality it does all I want and more. How do the newer units
compare in terms of customizability? I like being able to choose what
info is on the screen, and see lat/long, altitude, etc.

It went downhill after the 28** series of Streetpilots. I'm seriously
considering sending my 2720 back for the full refurb treatment. $180
plus shipping, includes the latest mapset for the unit.
