From: Robert Scott on 5 Dec 2009 09:31 There is now an iPhone app to check your tachometer. It is called "Engine RPM" and it is in the Utilities category in the App Store. It uses the sound of the engine to determine RPM as accurately as an optical tach. It works on any engine that makes noise: small planes, motorcycles, R/C models, etc. This app is based on our "RPM from Sound" freeware Pocket PC app that has been available for years. But this iPhone app is more reliable, easier to operate, and covers the range 500 to 90,000 RPM. Robert Scott Real-Time Specialties Ypsilanti, Michigan

BTW - tach app is pretty much meh. Only digital display, and takes some fiddling to get it to settle down on the Bonnie. Definitely not to be relied on. Interesting, though, and actually pretty clever. -- Jeff R.

There are some apps that require the GPS/compass hardware that is only in the newer iPhone 3GS (eg the Tom Tom GPS software). But the iPod touch will run the vast majority of apps from the app store. Yes indeed, compared to the majority of the iphone apps, $12 is VERY expensive. Nev.. '08 DL1000K8 |
