And, if he doesn't have the manual, there's this page from my site
that might help:

Indeed! P0374 and P0502. Crank Position Sensor and Vehicle Speed
Sensor High/Open. I have a CPS on it's way to me as of now, going to
replace that. Some searching has shown that replacing the CPS will
usually correct the VSS issue also.

Thoughts?

I think you should read the FAQs.

You're the second person to say that, and yet I have read them. I must be
missing something in there that ya'll are trying to point out. Doing my
own research is the only one that comes to mind, but I have done quite a
bit. Including using the repair manual to try and diagnose/correct.
Last time I checked codes (about a month ago) they were clear and
reported "none". Additional online research has shown that many others
have had the same issue with the crank position sensor and not thrown a
code until the sensor was completely blotto, despite the problem
persisting for quite some time prior. The repair manual also doesn't
mention a VSS correction occuring by replacing the CPS, giving the
impression that they're completely unrelated. But again, online research
has shown that replacing the CPS has corrected the VSS in some cases also
- I was looking for an additional opinion on the why/why not that may
work, as the discussions I've found aren't entirely conclusive.

That being said - if I am indeed missing some other part of the FAQ that
is germane to this, please advise and I will read again.
