Are you serious? Do you really believe that anyone buys a Renault
because of any success they might have in F1?

No, they do it for these reasons:
- global brand marketing - it gets their name out to a billion people.
Why do you think Vodafone sponsor McClaren? Do you think anyone signs
up for a Vodafone mobile contract because a McClaren wins a race?
- to give their engineers a mental gym to work out in, before
returning to solve problems related to production cars
- perhaps, maybe, the occasional R&D spin-off. If you're lucky.

Maybe. Remember http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_Clio#Clio_Williams ?

Their current marketing:
http://www.renaultsport.co.uk/roadcars/clio200/overview/Default.aspx

"The impressive new look incorporates F1-style frontal aerodynamics"

Just because you may not be susceptible to the hype does not mean it is not
working for Renault.
