OK.....sadly there was a shooting this weekend with a death resulting
in a small town nearby.

Here is a direct quote:

" XXXX and XXXX are said to be part of a motorcycle charter, while
XXXXXXX and XXXXXXXX are part of a different motorcycle charter,
according to authorities. Authorities are not connecting the
motorcycle charters with the shooting at this time, Grissom said."

I've never heard a motorcycle club referred to as a "charter". Is this
a case of a news reporter's ignorance or is it mine?

First off man, if you're quoting a news source what's with all the X's?

Second, charters are indeed valid. Hells Angels, as an example has
charters all over the world. Google it.

Third, you can't be serious?

Think of it as a synonym for chapter ... at least as generally used.

"Charter" is the commonly used term on Sons of Anarchy.
