<nips>

I happen to have my inner primary off for an unrelated issue but have also had an elusive
noise, kinda like what you describe, for a while now. Mine's a 2000 so its probably not
the exact issue you have.

Did the noise vary with load/throttle, as in louder at steady state cruise than during
accel/decel? Or just off idle? Mine sounds to me like it is top end but it is quiet at
idle, and I haven't a clue how to trace down a noise like that while underway. Can you
tell looking at the compensator? (wear marks, etc?)

HAROM whilst you ponder...

Thanks for the write up!

My 07 has been making weird noises on that side, I got the Extended
Warrenty, gonna look into this issue & upgrade.

Noted with interest as I am looking to replace my Deuce. Makes me wonder
what year is the highest quality bike, all being somewhat subjective of
course. There are quite a few used Twinkies around with low miles that
have been upgraded to gear driven cams, prolly what I'll end up with.
Another great writeup TL, thanks.

Primary drive in a 2000 is different than the newer ones with the 6 speed.

Doubt it. The suspect compensator came out in '06.

No clue. Mine was only audible at or just above idle as the RPMs were
decreasing. Anything above 1100 RPMs and I doubt if you'd hear it as there's
to many other things thrashing around making noise.
