That kind of service doesn't come cheap.

This one did. I had to be up north the next day so just booked into Piccadilly Backpackers (next door to Piccadilly Theatre, seeming impossible to find to 3 black cabs after I got off at Kings Cross at 6am Sunday morning after a long flight with a massive hangover - I could have walked there in 5 minutes, it ended up costing me 25 quid). Anyway I'd wandered around Soho and the general area there after an afternoon nanna nap. Got a surprise at how early places were closing down but did have the best sashimi meal I've ever eaten in a little joint in Soho, the food all went down from there. About midnight I get back to hostel and am heading upstairs. Said French lass is standing near the slowest elevator in the world. I was heading for the staircase. Suggested to her that it would be quicker just to walk up the stairs. Broad French accent "But my bag it is so 'eavy". No worries, I'll carry your bag upstairs, it was only four floors. Bloody thing weighed next to nothing anyway. Turns out we are on the same floor. I had been so knackered when I got in from Sydney that my original plan of just grabbing a share room and heading to Stanstead the next day went out the window earlier when I needed the nap so I paid for a room by myself. Anyway, she asks whether I want to go to the common room for a coffee and a chat. One thing led to another and I was very happy I had my own room. Nice introduction to Britain ;-) Gunna line me up next time I come over? |
