*very often* here is a clue phrase. Sure, for some people, there is
*no* reason. For many there is a, or multiple factors that can be dealt
with sufficiently enough to allow the person to function 'normally'.

However the conversation was about 'stress', not depression, which is a
different kettle of fish.

Stress and strain are two differnt things - strain being worse than
stress. I'm speaking metallurgically, but it's fairly applicable in
other areas.
