I've seen on t'internet that they can be fitted behind the clocks inside
the fairing.
How hot do these ballasts get?

My toolkit lives in the garage. Apart from the really important one[1]
which lives in my pocket.

Not very. Warm to the touch is al I ever found mine getting.
