My, but your imagination is working overtime.

He wanted to repeal the federal Voting Rights Act that finally enabled
black voters in the south to register for the first time ever, arguing
that "it discriminates against Southern states over long-past racial
transgressions".

He somehow forgot to mention the racial transgressions of the more
recent past, which demonstrates that his imagination was working
overtime as well.
