Very interesting. Look forward to more.

Smart money on the new suspenders - and VERY impressive mileage
reports for such a big bike.

Waiting till the old shock was probably about shot was wise, and the
easy preload adjuster will be great for two up touring or hauling
gear. I'm betting you'll both find riding long days together more
enjoyable than ever.

The mpg computer is wrong when you have a Power Commander fitted, as
saddlebag's FJR does.

Actually, it never felt much different. It was and has always been a
harsh MF'r. Front end always felt pretty good, but I dropped
progressive springs in there too.

In 2006, Yamaha decided to stiffen up the rear end due to complaints
about the prior generation being far too soft, which it was. But
instead of using Ohlins on such a high end, serious rider product as
would Ducati, Yamaha just slapped an overdamped, oversprung, minimally
adjustable unit on it and called it a day. The irony is that last I
heard, Yamaha OWNS Ohlins.

With her and luggage on the back it actually was a pretty comfortable
controlled ride stock. It was solo that it beat me to hell over our
increasingly beat up roads.

Now comfort is just a couple turns of a preload knob regardless of
GVWR.
