[had no trouble reading it]

I wonder if a box of baking soda would have saved the bike. About
the cheapest insurance you can get.

I always carry a fire extinguisher in the van and I've taken it out
only once in 10 years -- when a car across the street jumped the curb
and hit a power pole (zoned-out driver with his wife and kids
in the car). Luckily there was no fire but they were glad I showed up
with the thing anyway.

It wasn't necessarily the bike's fault. It could happen to any of us
if we're not careful. One more reminder that everybody and everything
is out to kill us. Stay alert.

Follow threads weretalkingabout carrying a Fire extinquisher. When I got my
Dad's bike, it had a Fire extinquisher inside a compartment in the fairing,
never been used. Rebuilt the carb and attempting to set idle and idle mix,
had bike idling in garage, back fire through carb and carb. lit off, the
extinquisher was close grabbed it, pulled the key squeezed the trigger......
nothing! Luckily U had some damp towels in the garage wiith me from another
porjectthat day andtoss over the tank and carb, and snuffed it out. Extent
of damage... soot stains on freshly waxed tank, sooty carb. and need for
clean underpants. Cleaned up all three items, disposed of ancient throw
away fire extinguishet.

The forks might be worth saving, I'd love to have a good leading link on
my bike.
