Nope...nice try. I remember (vaguely) when they got started here over
in Oregeon. Only thing british was the outside appearances and IIRC
maybe some fiddly bits.

In North America, a collective noun is considered singular as in one
collection.
In Britain it's considered plural as in a group of individuals.
