Not that I ever have abused my position, as it were.

Phew, got away with it.

Humph. Makes my epic (I thought) Newarket to Sheffield on a CB250RS in
winter look puny.

So what is this utility to be called? The Champ "Distance And Means To
A Shag"-O-Meter?

Or simply the "Desper-o-meter?"

When I was am army apprentice every other weekend my FS1E would get
thrashed between Arborfield near Reading across country to Bedford to
drop off my dirty laundry at mum's or sister's, and then thrashed some
more to my then girlfriend's house in Leicester. My usual arrival time
in Leicester was about 4am and I'd quietly slip into the tent my ex had
already lovingly erected in the back garden for me for a few hours well
needed kip. I'd spend one or two night's camping in her parent's garden
(not allowed to sleep inside the same house as their daughter) and then
ride back to Bedford, collect now clean laundry and ride back to
Arborfield by 10pm Sunday. Whether I spent one or two nights out
depended on whether I could blag a 48 hour pass or not.

When I got posted to Tidworth I called it quits.
