I've used an old cambelt with a couple of holes punched through it as a
strap. Remove the clamp and put a 'penny washer' under the bolt head to stop
it pulling through.
I suppose an old belt from a pair of trouser would do.
It's only got to be secure to pass the MOT.

The battery in the SR250 SpazzTrakka was held in with an old rear brake
piston seal clipped around two sticky out bits on the sides of the
battery box.

It isn't, and never has been. However, there are some things that are
illegal on a car, yet pass an MOT - it's illegal to have an illegal
spare, but it's not part of an MOT, because it doesn't make the care
dangerous to drive *at that time*.

The MOT has a very low standard, and what you'd consider as 'badly
worn', can still pass an MOT.

That's one of the aforementioned various reasons, but it's still not an MOT
requirement.

No, it's not.
