Looks like it will have to be next time Stephen.
From: Calgary on 17 Jun 2010 19:29 Talk about a fortuitous moment. First let me back up a bit. I was hoping to make a connection with Lyle and Bryan somewhere en route to Chama. With those guys leaving Spanish Fork at 7:30 am and Annette and I leaving Evanston about the same time our chances of meeting were slim. We tried to make decent time, and did, until a miserable storm blew in. And believe me it blew. Damn near blew us off the highway. In fact we packed it in once we got to Price, two hours shy of Moab. So given the short day I figured there was no chance to catch up to those guys. We rolled into Moab mid morning, played around Canyonlands for a few hours and then checked into our motel sometime around 1:00 pm, thinking Bryan went home yesterday and Lyle had already left for Chama. As it turned out Bryan wasn't able to make the ride anyway. Back to the fortuitous moment. After settling into the motel we went for a walk downtown. As we were walking and chatting, I spotted a very familiar Vetter fairing. For those who recall, Lyle has one of my old Vetter fairings installed on his bike, and yes it was Lyle. I gave him a shout and he was able to hear me. It was good to see him again and meet his son Andrew. We enjoyed a good lunch at the Moab Diner before we went on our separate ways. Unfortunately Annette and I will not be going to Chama. Given our limited time and the pace we have been travelling, we will need to begin heading home after Moab.

Work prevented me from riding with Lyle. Dammit. Ping me ASAP, you should have my phone number.

I was looking forward to seeing you again. We're in South Fork CO tonight and will be in Chama tomorrow. For once, I was able to finagle enough time away from the office so we didn't have to push too hard to make it on time. We also had some extreme weather in Nebraska which slowed us down a lot. Plus we lost a half day buying a new bike enroute. |
