To have a dirty bomb you need material that has been passed through a working nuclear reactor, something they didn't have. Germany gave up on a nuclear weapon in 1943, after their scientists told Hitler it would take too long to come to fruition. The only nuclear research being done in Germany by the end of the war was for a nuclear power grid, and it was still completely theoretical. But if they had, by some slight of hand, managed to produce a couple of nukes of any destructive power, I'm sure Hitler would have completely ignored London, Moscow, or a major concentration of enemy troops in Europe and hiffed the little buggers at New York in a fit of pique. The Amerikabomer has some credibility as a delivery option for the imaginary nukes, except for the fact that the plan was abandoned by 1942. Even if they had resuscitated it in 1945, the plan called for using a base in the Azores, which from 1943 onwards was leased to the British by Portugal. A little awkward for the Luftwaffe, and you. What they were striving for was radioactive material sufficiently refined to bring together something approaching critical mass to produce some degree of chain reaction. Blast damage would have been minimal but radioactive fallout would be lethal over a wide area. When the allies overran the occupied countries they found makeshift reactor piles for concentrating radioactive material, some experts reckoned they were only a few years behind the Americans, but those estimates were based on the assumption that they were after the most efficient detonation - they were much closer to achieving a very dirty device.

A dirty bomb is simply a conventional explosive device designed in such a way as to spread radioactive contaminant when it detonates.
