I probably do more maintenance than you. I am a firm believer in
regular oil/fluid changes and I give my bikes a careful once over a
few times each riding season.

As for the wire ties I think they are more valuable and versatile than
duct tape, but I often use both.

I ride less than 5k a year, but come to think of it I've been changing
oil twice a season for the last few years, with one typically being
just before my sis and I do our trip. Other than that, kick the tires
every now and then and screw around with the battery occasionally.
