Not a big deal. My friend's shovel has short throw plugs and I thought
that by 75 Harley would have figured out that they sucked and gone with
long throw. They hadn't though. My friend Joe says that they did this
around 77 or 78, but the page Chuck Eaves pointed out explains all the
confusion. Looks like the year they went to long throw was '78.

Dave's out of luck. I've seen a lot of those short throw heads stripped
out and having to be heli-coiled, which doesn't work very well. If he
doesn't over tighten the plug it will hold up though.

Over tightening isn't usually the problem. The problem is usually putting
them in without antiseize on them. Steel plug into an Aluminum head.

Food for thought. I haven't used a Champion plug in anything with an
aluminum head for years. They may have very well fixed the problem by now
but in the mid to late 70s I saw more seized Champion plug than any other
brand.
