I wouldn't. Fettle what needs fettling, then try it up the road. If it dives horribly all over the place, fettle it. How does your tester propose to test it, anyway - road test? I'm not sure which is worse; owning one of those or joining a single-marque club. Mind you, I suppose the discount on spares comes in handy.

Ok thanks. FWIW, it would seem from my searching so far that the system as referenced by some from the GPz750 (turbo?) and what I have on the 550 isn't the exact same gear. On the 750 (and possibly other year / models than mine) it's a two bolt, diamond pattern fitting, whereas mine is a 4 bolt elongated style. So, (in partial answer to your "why so many / duplicate questions" elsewhere) I have not yet found an engineering drawing or description that accurately covers my model. The difference between me and some is that I have read many instances where people have gone to some effort and simply 'blanked it off' (as I may well have done) and wondered why their suspension has stopped working? If I'm going to bother to do anything, I'd like a very good feeling that my efforts won't be in vain. > Fettle what needs fettling, then try it up the road. That's the basic plan Pip. (If I can stop myself fettling whist waiting for other parts). ;-) >If >it dives horribly all over the place, fettle it. Ok .. > How does your tester >propose to test it, anyway - road test? I think not, not these days. Nope, he said to test that it works he brakes whilst pushing the bike forward and to test that it doesn't he puts wheel up against an immovable object and pushes forwards / down?

I belonged, when I had my ShiteOldBoxer. Good bunch of people, actually. Used to meet in some pub down near Richmond. I remember an Xmas party there, circa 1995. We were all eating and drinking and there was a bang from the other door, like a bar flap slamming down. Then another, and the screaming started. Yup, some bloke had been plugged twice. The club members' reactions were hysterically funny. "Oh dear, been shot, has he? Oh yes, he does seem to be leaking a bit. Police been called? Good show. Well, have another of these little cheesey things, they're delicious...." And the party continued. Plod turned up post- haste and we were all locked into the pub. I had to phone The Doctor and explain I was shut in a pub and didn't know when I'd be home. She was *very* sceptical. The bar was still serving, amazingly, but Plod closed it. One of the Beemer bods asked Plod if it was all right if he had a cup of tea, then, and Plod had a sense of humour failure. Anyway, none of us had seen the actual shooting, but we all had to give our details in case we were needed. When it was my turn, this weary Plod looked me up and down and said: "BMW club, right?" "Right." "Leather jacket and bike boots. Bloody 'ell. I've got two dozen descriptions of blokes all wearing bike jackets and boots....." Weeks later, I was called to say they wouldn't want me as a witness. Turned out it was an argument of someone else's missus and the poor sod had been winged twice with a shotgun but (amazingly) had survived and (even more amazingly) made a complete recovery. I asked if they knew who'd shot him... (Pause) "We are actively making enquiries...." |
