When I bought my 1000EXUP my neighbour's son bought the 600. These would be the first models. He was a harsh and careless owner and the FZR just sucked it up and continued to go like an angry hornet. The quality of plastics wasn't great, they were a bit brittle back then. The OE shocks were garbage. The lube points like suspension linkages and the calipers needed careful attention. Otherwise grrrreat. It was something of a disappointment that the beam frames were steel. -- Hog

Yep. 1990 or early 1991 model IIRC - the old twin-headlight model but with the later brakes, in black and charcoal. Very confidence-inspiring; just fun to ride. It kind of seduced me into riding sports bike properly and not riding like a commuter, unlike a CBR600 I'd owned a few years previously. It gave me my first knee down and unfortunately my first real highside too, at Silverstone (I had almost highsided a 250LC at Snetterton but somehow stayed on). -- -Pip |
