It works for many people. TOG's not *telling* you not to drive them on public roads, and nobody is "forbidding" you from doing so either: he's suggesting collecting as an alternative to paying those "punitive taxes" you object to so strongly. What you actually seem to be saying though, is "Why should I have to do anything that I don't want to do?" And the answer to that question is "Because you're sharing the planet with circa 7 billion other human beings, and the more people we have on Earth the more rules there are going to be." Such is life.

Where in your world is a 2001 Dodge Dakota a collectable vehicle? For that matter what makes you think an 85 XJ6 is a collectable vehicle? You are both being ignorant for even suggesting they are. I use both of these vehicles. They each serve a different purpose. For me they are practical, economical and considering the way I use them, they are environmentally friendly. All of that was in my earlier post. You seem to be acting deliberately obtuse. Neil somehow thinks I should only collect them and not drive them on the road. I would like to know why. >as an alternative to paying those "punitive taxes" you object to so >strongly. So you support placing punitive taxes, on motor vehicles that will do nothing to preserve the environment? What a friggin idiot. > >What you actually seem to be saying though, is "Why should I have to >do anything that I don't want to do?" Pete you need to wipe the edge of your mouth. There is just a little bullshit left. There was nothing in my post that even remotely implied that. I do not support are punitive taxes that do nothing more than raise money for our governments, which is what taxes like the UK road tax do. You seem to be saying you support them. Big surprise. In that same exchange I also said "It's not the vehicle that damages the environment, it is the consumption of fossil fuels." I wonder why you did not quote that too? Silly question. If you want to do something to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and help the environment, place a tax dedicated to foster forms of alternate energy, on the various products developed from fossil fuels. If there was some assurance the money raised would be used for the intended purpose I could support that. > >And the answer to that question is "Because you're sharing the planet >with circa 7 billion other human beings, and the more people we have >on Earth the more rules there are going to be." > I am comfortable with my environmental footprint. My consumption of fuel for my four wheeled vehicles is minimal. I have done more over the years to preserve, protect and when necessary restore a variety of environmentally sensitive areas than most. I would like to know if you or Neil can say the same.
